The forest is ringing. But although our ears cannot hear this, the forest also rings in the ultrasonic range. They are noises that originate in the trees themselves and that can be made audible with special technology.

Audible are the bird and animal calls, the rustling of the leaves and the needles, close-by streams, and aeroplanes. But although our ears cannot hear this, the forest also rings in the ultrasonic range. They are noises that originate in the trees themselves and that can be made audible with special technology. Most of the acoustic emissions in plants occur due to dry stress: Thirsty trees make inaudible noise - noises from plants allow conclusions to be made about their state and the environmental conditions.
