What were the key climate events during 2017? What are existing solutions for the use of earth observation data? How can free and open earth observation data aid decision making? GEO and the Copernicus services C3S and CAMS invite to a workshop where these questions will be discussed.

Earth Data Observation

In this workshop, scientists will revisit 2017 from a climate perspective, by presenting key global climate drivers and indicators, monitored by these three entities. This includes the continued rise in greenhouse gas concentrations, close to record-breaking global surface air temperatures, and below average sea-ice conditions in both the Arctic and Antarctic. Europe, experienced above-average temperatures in most areas and the southern part of the continent suffered a long drought with water shortages and destructive fires.

In a second part, the focus will be on highlighting existing solutions based on the free and open earth observations provided by GEO, C3S and CAMS, including a wide range of applications from water management under a changing climate to the use of solar radiation measurements for installing solar panels.

The workshop will end with a panel discussion, where the panellist and audience will discuss the use of earth observations in current and future applications.
