Protected mountain areas always include forests as they provide important sources of wood and other forest products that re ect their high biodiversity (endemic species). They also ful l many environmental services, including protection against natural haz- ards and absorption of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, as well as offering landscapes for tourism and recreation.
