The presentation will focus on the role and activities of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the UN body for assessing the science related to climate change, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

IPCC

The IPCC assesses the thousands of scientific papers published each year to tell policymakers what we know and don’t know about the risks related to climate change. Since its inception in 1988, the IPCC has produced five comprehensive Assessment Reports and several Special Reports on specific topics. IPCC has also produced Methodology Reports, which provide practical guidelines on the preparation of greenhouse gas inventories for the inventory reporting requirements of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). To produce its reports, the IPCC mobilizes hundreds of scientists. The IPCC is currently in its Sixth Assessment cycle, during which it will produce three Special Reports, a Methodology Report and the Sixth Assessment Report. The work on these reports will be presented to you.
