Academies become a member of the global network "Scholars at Risk"
Scholars at Risk defends the principles of academic freedom and assists scientists, whose human rights are violated. More than 500 academic institutions worldwide support the work of Scholars at Risk.
The 15 members in Switzerland - swissuniversities, both ETHs, eight universities, two universities of applied sciences and two colleges of education - have formed a national section since 2017. As a sign of solidarity, the Swiss Academies of Sciences are now also a member of Scholars at Risk. Already before, the academies supported the work of the Swiss section. With the Delegate for Human Rights, the Association of Academies has been involved for years at the interface between science and human rights. The Delegate intervenes in support of researchers, whose human rights are violated as a result of their scientific work, and promotes the importance of human rights in science.
